Driver who hit cyclists 'cowardly': police
The cyclists were on their way to the starting point of the Around The Bay In A Day ride.

Senior Constable Danny Lean, of Mornington Police, said the lead cyclist was clipped by the car, causing a domino effect.

The first cyclist suffered minor injuries and abrasions and his bike frame snapped, so could not continue. The other 12 riders were shaken, but continued with their ride.

"The allegation is that the vehicle's targeted the riders ... then the vehicle's just continued on," Senior Constable Lean said.

"It's a pretty cowardly act, it's just lucky it didn't turn into serious injuries or even fatalities."

Cyclist found dead on inner-Melbourne road
September 22, 2008 - 7:31AM
A male cyclist in his early 20s has been found dead on a road in Melbourne's inner-north.

Police believe the man may have lost control of his bike last night and died after falling off.

Police were called to Queens Parade in Clifton Hill just before midnight after the cyclist was found in the west-bound service lane near Turnbull Street.

A post mortem will be required to establish the exact cause of death.

The fatality brings the state's road toll to 228, four more than for the same period last year.

A 33-year-old female cyclist has died after being hit by a bus in Melbourne's CBD Thursday morning.
The revelation comes after a 33-year-old Parkville woman was killed when a bus collided with her bicycle near the corner of Swanston and Bourke streets this morning.

The woman died at the scene about 8am after she was struck by a Gray Line tourist bus.

It is believed the woman was dead when paramedics arrived, an ambulance spokeswoman said.

About 200 cyclists rallied near the corner tonight to pay their respects and to help other cyclists.
